These days it seems like everybody is a fashion designer. With DIY and Etsy culture having a very extended moment I feel like I can't turn a corner (or open a new tab) without someone showing off the stuff they "made". The fact is, most of the stuff people make these days involves a hot glue gun or a screen printer. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just thought I'd give you a glimpse into a bit of my own work which involves neither.
Along with the gold glitter bows I posted previously, Kindra and Laura also ordered two of my heart teardrop hats (of which a variation of the design will be available this fall) in "quilted red vinyl with spikes" which meant I had to quilt the vinyl myself AND create matching red vinyl piping to edge the hats with. These things take time. After I quilted the vinyl through a process that involved hand drawing a grid stencil, padding up the vinyl, and basting followed by machine finishing, I studded the vinyl by hand. Aside from the machine stitches across the front the entire hats are hand sewn- most of which I did on the subway on the way to and from work. Gotta get it done. Remember- real work takes time.
Anyway, I love how these turned out and I'll post photos eventually of the ladies rocking them! What do you think?
AAAAA <3
they're amazing. it's definitely apparent that they are well-made!

There's a special place in my heart for haphazardly hot-glued accessories and t-shirts made with a stencil and spray paint, but I still have an appreciation for the kind of craftsmanship that goes into your pieces. Such beautiful hand-made things are hard to come by and well worth the extra cost. All of your hats and creations are unique and gorgeous.
Amazing work, Stella! They're absolutely gorgeous! <3
Gorgeous work! I wish I had the attention span and the patience to do that kind of detail work.
This is awesome.

ha, i feel the same way about music & the scores of people who make heavily-promoted records without ever learning to play an instrument, sing, or draw inspiration from any music recorded more than a year ago. i'm a DIY-er at heart but the sense of entitlement that sometimes comes with it can be a drag!
i like to think that beautiful craftsmanship always stands out amongst the hot glue(/lazy beats), though.
Great job! love the details.
You are so talented its depressing! Can't wait to see them in effect xx ps love the nails
Thank you for your compliments and thoughts everyone!
