I loved making these quilted vinyl heart hats for Kindra and Laura so I was thrilled when I got another custom order for one in PINK. Obsessed with this bubble gum color. I need to find time to sew myself a whole costume from it! Anyway, how much do you love this design?
Also taking a moment to show off my new manicure by Michelle at Fierce Nail Spa in Harlem. I'm not keeping my purple hair come September so I figured if I wanted to get matchymatchy with a purple manicure, now was the time. Speaking of which, I love how big nail art has become. when my mom was my age she and her friend used to paint elaborate patterns on each others nails and then go down to the store and photocopy their hands so they could remember all the different designs. She still has the images. That was in the '70s. It only took 40 years for it to fully catch on.

These days it seems like everybody is a fashion designer. With DIY and Etsy culture having a very extended moment I feel like I can't turn a corner (or open a new tab) without someone showing off the stuff they "made". The fact is, most of the stuff people make these days involves a hot glue gun or a screen printer. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just thought I'd give you a glimpse into a bit of my own work which involves neither.
Along with the gold glitter bows I posted previously, Kindra and Laura also ordered two of my heart teardrop hats (of which a variation of the design will be available this fall) in "quilted red vinyl with spikes" which meant I had to quilt the vinyl myself AND create matching red vinyl piping to edge the hats with. These things take time. After I quilted the vinyl through a process that involved hand drawing a grid stencil, padding up the vinyl, and basting followed by machine finishing, I studded the vinyl by hand. Aside from the machine stitches across the front the entire hats are hand sewn- most of which I did on the subway on the way to and from work. Gotta get it done. Remember- real work takes time.
Anyway, I love how these turned out and I'll post photos eventually of the ladies rocking them! What do you think?

Before I left for Seattle I stitched up a couple of glitter bows for my fabulous friends Kindra and Laura. Special order. I DO do custom pieces ya know! I LOVE LOVE LOVE how these turned out and I think I need one asap for myself.
My question for you is would YOU buy one of these? I'm thinking about making more in some other colors for my club minded customers. These might be a side addition to my fall mini collection. Photos of them out and about on Kindra's birthday soon to follow!
