Finally, the time has come to share the fashion show I've been working on with you! Local paper The Stranger (Seattle's answer to the Village Voice) hosted their first ever fashion show highlighting local designers last friday. Seattle is far from a fashion town by any means, but nevertheless the show was eclectic and very good with a little something for everyone!
I partnered with my close friend and design mentor Mark Mitchell to create a series of hats to go with his gorgeous ensembles. The only one who went sans hat was Ade (above) who wore the largest red dress I've ever seen first hand!
I wore my knockoff Prada that I made the day before, and my neon green spiked turban of course! Though after the stylists got to me I looked a bit like Beetlejuice, har har har.
I'll be posting more detailed shots of these soon but here are the pictures straight off the runway!

I was happy with the results of each of the hats but I was the most excited about Dance Belts purple velvet fez swirl hair turbans (which were a nightmare to drape but well worth it) as well as Taylor's leather turban with spikes. A product that will be available to all of you within the next few months!
Speaking of Taylor, he designed the fabric he, as well as Alex (above) are wearing and Mark went all McQueen on it and stitched it into a complex and fabulous pair of jeans, a vest, and a cocktail dress. Taylor has some of the best personal style I've seen in this dreary little town and I hope to do a small feature on him before he moves to San Francisco at the end of the month...
All the wearables in this were hand made by Mark Mitchell in his little at home sewing room. You can't imagine how much space all those tulle ruffles took up.
There was one metallic green ensemble (which I actually own) that didn't make it into these photos but it appears for a minute in this video of the last part of our segment and the finale walk:

I'm so glad I got the opportunity to participate in this show! It was a great challenge and learning experience and now that it's over I am going into spiked velvet turban production! I will be putting some up on my site in a couple of weeks in neon green, yellow, and a weird purply nebula color for sure, followed by more in different shades. However, if you know you want one now or have any questions about future designs (leather turbans, heart brimmed hats, heart teardrop hats) don't hesitate to send me an email! I only wish that hats didn't take so many hours to make or I would have them available tomorrow! Oh well, that's hand sewing for you!
