When I came across the photos of Lady Gaga performing at the Thierry Mugler fashion show I knew I had seen that eye makeup before...

...on my personal patron saint, Nina Hagen of course! I suppose if Gaga had opted for brows it would have been a bit more obvious of a copy.
When I searched Gaga and Nina I found this hilarious article in which Nina Hagen states:

“Lady Gaga is a pop prostitute, a satanic bitch with her fascist and demonic secret signs! Her pop prostitution has more to do with bikini advertising than with warmth.”

Hmmm... Maybe it was Nina that took a bite out of her! I like the new black bangs but I much prefer the use of said eye makeup when accompanied by Nina's "Ziggy Stardust" cover than by er... whatever single Lady Gaga is pushing these days.
Stay weird. Take a cue from the queen:

Why the negativity? Every fashion statement- in fact everything, is influenced by whatever the minds eye encounters in this world. An artist's expression is their personal interpretation of their own experience. I'd see it as a copmliment, or perhaps an homage. Everything that is created can probably be compared to something of similar resemblance from somewhere/someone/sometime/something else, conciously, or maybe even unconciously. It's okay, and often results in something that's actually kind of a fresh take.. Just sayin'.

With that said, love you and all your fabulousness! <3

    Ninaaaaa!! <3
She'll always be the queen ;o

The way I see it Gaga ripped off David Bowie more than she ripped off someone who once covered David Bowie. Also, the Paparazzi video is pretty much Hazel O'Connor meets Marilyn Manson. Like the poster above me said, nothing is original. I had never consciously heard of Nina Hagen before this post, and the above Gaga picture reminded me of Siouxsie Sioux's make-up, all pointy-like.
Not that I want to totally defend Gaga, she is a rip off, but so has all culture been since the dawn of time.
PS No offense meant by this post. To anyone.

it's one thing to be influenced and another to just take something head on. Where is her creativity?

  6. Maya-Isn't she? Few faces could pull off her makeup technics.
Anonymous- I agree. Everything in the world is just a manipulated copy of a copy of a copy when you think about it. I guess I've heard so much talk about Gaga "ripping everyone off" that I thought I should comment on this lesser known reference. Though I suppose this post makes it obvious that I'm not a Gaga fan, I really have nothing against her. She's just doing what she wants, like we all should be!
Also, don't feel like you need to be anonymous on here. I respect everyones positive opinions!
Marlena- I should have suspected you would be a huge fan!
Ruthy- I'm sure Gaga has ripped off Bowie in some way as well. Just as Bowie allegedly ripped off lesser known icons like Jayne County, etc etc.
I guess I mostly wanted to take this opportunity shine a light on this more underground icon when I noticed Gaga was utilizing similar makeup technics. In the end, it's not about who ripped who off I suppose. Its about knowing the roots. Many times the beginnings of things are far more interesting than what they eventually evolve into.
I don't think you're being offensive, I think you are perfectly sweet!

  7. Clarity-I guess I'd be able to answer that if I had actually watched the Gaga performance, haha! Now I'll never know... At least she didn't do Nina's iconic brows on top!

Don`t hate people, just know that it has all been done before and we live in a collective conscious.

This is your pudgy, ex-Texan, somewhat-less-well-put-together, doppelganger calling.

I don't know about you, but I suddenly feel less alone. ;-)

  16. I agree, personally I like Nina and gaga. I listen to them both and find them both to be inspiring, I don't see what's with all of the negativity. Even though gaga very well could be taking some inspiration from Nina, they are so completely different besides that that I don't get how it's such a big deal. Personally, I would also take it as a compliment.
