Still thinking about catholic imagery as fashion inspiration. Cannot get enough of shades of blue and gold and red and pink. Creepy statues and gilded crosses. Blood and wine.
In high school I was obsessed with the image of the Virgin Mary and used to draw sexy pictures of her in class and I dressed as her for Halloween and again for celebrity look-alike day at school. I even had a light up nativity scene figure in my room that I had decorated with red lips and faux lashes but I had to leave her behind in Seattle when I moved...
Meadham Kirchhoff and the Japanese fashion trend "Cult Party Kei" were one step ahead of me this season channeling Mary on all fronts. I want the weather to get warm so I can wear lace night gowns and glitter every day till sumer.
I'm happy I found a way to incorporate religion in to my life.
Note: I have the same lace robe and hair of the girl in the second photo. I am going to turn in to her.
December is by far the coziest time of the year. This month I'm making time to go ice skating and make gingerbread men! It gets so cold in New York and the only way I can see being prepared for it is to stock up on lots and lots of vintage fur. I'm wanting a vintage mink coat more than ever right now and I'm gonna hit up some vintage sales and try to find an extra warm one. I'm pulling out my thigh high socks as well to combat the weather. I think they're great because they are so easy to pull up or push down as you go from outside to in. I also plan to fight the cold by carrying homemade hot soup with me every day in a thermos. I made lentil last night and I'm thinking of doing tomato next. I am crazy about Lime Crime's new Carousel Gloss which I've been wearing since I got it. The color is vivid and the glitter ups the shine factor. Speaking of glitter, tis the season for glitter EVERYTHING and since I can't afford Miu Miu I'm in the process of creating some glittery new accessories for myself as well as you all! Try metallic gold nail polish this month which is festive enough for Christmas and perfect for New Years eve! I am on a mod kick right now and nothing says mod like faux lashes. Wear them to work and then out to a holiday party in the evening. Some people hate Christmas music but as long as Brenda Lee is in the mix I'm happy. Go listen to I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Clause right now!
And finally, I'm making a big hair change in a few days which I've been anticipating for a long time. This minty hair should give you a hint of what it might be! I can't wait!

Nothing says garishly ghoulishly festive like a glitter manicure. My stick on nail polish is still holding up but I'm dreaming of black or purple glitter next. October is a great month for black velvet anything and everything! Its about time I dug my velvet leggings out again. Pair a velvet dress with an unconventional leather collar and you'll look spooky like Wednesday Addams. Speaking of spooky, for the past month I've been staying across the way from The Dakota, the famous building where Rosemary's Baby was filmed. I couldn't sleep for days after seeing that movie last. It's such a beautiful building but I could never live there without having nightmares... I'm crazy over black and white animal prints right now. I'm on the hunt for that Top Shop spotted stole with no success. When it comes to eyebrows my motto is "go big or go home" and clearly vintage vixen Vampira agrees. Oddly colored vegetables always grab my attention and nothing says Halloween like black carrots, a healthy candy alternative. Revisiting Desperately Seeking Susan I am loving Madonna's skull suitcase. DIY one with handmade stencils and white spray paint. And finally, lets pay special attention to Gerlan's latest creation- The Goosebumps inspired ooze dress. Genius.

I'm staying at my mom's this month, prior to the big move and I'm taking the opportunity to watch all her VHS tapes during my stay. I prefer VHS to DVD any day. I hate those automated DVD menu's. They always ruin a good film...
Anyway, I took these awful stills of the gorgeous Katerina Cavalieri from a scene in Amadeus (1984). I forgot how much these images impacted me when I was younger. The bright red lips and black eyeliner are so blatant against the powder and pastel hues of the scene.
It seems that Eighteenth Century inspiration has been creeping its way into fashion editorials and shows every since Sofia Coppola "brought it back" with her film Marie Antionette, but it's scenes like this one that really get my inspiration flowing. If you haven't seen this ridiculous but very good movie, you really ought to. The wigs and costume work are to die for, and if you take Mozart's word for it, the score is the die for as well.

Exploring the Bay Area last weekend was a welcome change from the never ending gloom of summer in Seattle. We were treated to a lovely apartment all to ourselves thanks to some very generous new friends in Oakland. Everything was so gorgeous and colorful and blooming with flowers everywhere we went.
Though time was incredibly limited, I tried to explore as much as possible catching a quick glimpse of Chinatown, Downtown, and the Mission. Chinatown was dizzying and lovely. Downtown was refreshingly full of uppity designer shops which contrasted nicely against the Mission where a girl who was covered in open sores with a blender-like hair cut dressed in a little girls night gown asked us for money before screaming for an extended period of time at her friend named "Black Eye Peter" and then, later, a refrigerator sized man shouted an endless stream obscenities into a Mexican restaurant while customers tiptoed around him to get inside.
I visited my Grandfather and took a box of great vintage finds home with me that I'll be sharing about soon. I attended an inspiring wedding. I made lots of new friends.
I regret not seeing more drag there aside from a jesus preaching black tranny hooker yelling on the street in a bad wig and a gold vinyl mini, and while that is all good and well, I hope to visit again to see Trannyshack and do a bit of night clubbing.
All in all, I think a little bit of sun was good for me.
Since I've been back things have been changing quite fast and dramatically in my life and I'll have some exciting news for you all soon. My life is certainly moving in a direction and if anything, this blog is going to get a hell of a lot more interesting as I take you all along for my adventure.

Tonight I am finally shooting my turbans with the amazing Frank Correa. I am crazy about the plasticine quality of his photos that evoke a bit of low-fi magic into his images of youth and the city. Lately I've been obsessing over grandma hair. You know, roller curled greyish blondish retro do's. Something about botched dye jobs of blonde and red which turn apricot and plum against the silvery tones in the hair.
My hair has since faded to a blue toned white and I am mixing colors and things to try and turn it a perfect grandma peachy ash. If it works, I'll break out my pin curlers again...
Not to mention inspired hats, inspired nails, and inspired nudity. This show is is like Xanadu Streetwalker meets lady godiva on vacation. I can never get enough leopard print and the head pieces remind me of my moms 80's earring collection. The show itself is minimally over the top. See for yourself...
A giant pastel pom pom makes a wonderful hat. If your hair-do is falling flat just toss one of these on and you'll be a hit! Imagine having hair to match!
I'm really into hats that look like hair. It's not quite a wig or a hair piece but it reads like one. This particular color of pink mostly reads like a vintage powder puff!
Sedmikrasky or "Daisies" is a notable Czech new wave film from 1966 about two young girls who have decided to spoil themselves because the world has gone so bad. What follows is over an hour of breathtaking girly imagery and delightful scenarios that invoke the essence of spring time, and femininity making the world seem like a magical and mischievous place. Sedmikrasky teaches us that girl-centric cinema doesn't need to be watered down to the modern day "chick flick". The film is beautiful, sexy, avant garde, and hilarious. Scenes are strewn with images of roses, butterflies, rich foods and cakes, playful dresses, and expensive alcohol. The girls poke fun at adult situations, squeezing expensive meals out of rich old men, and getting giggling drunk in fancy clubs. Their behavior is apologetically young and feminine and completely delightful to behold. They are everything a girl aught to be.
I need to preface this entree by saying that I actually hate the styling in this show. It makes everything seem tacky. Like mall tacky. I mean, the concept of pastels and leopard print is always going to be tacky and that's exactly why I like it but why ruin it with run of the mill styling like this? Try to focus on these looks from the neck down...
It's important to know that I love jail stripes. Like, a whole lot. Unfortunately, Hot Topic has ruined jail stripes nearly for good. Especially the vivid colored variety. Black and neon stripes often conjure up high school memories of thigh high opaque tights, cheap teeshirts, and tawdry vinyl accessories.
Prada just updated this concept magically making it classy, chic, and completely unaffordable! Take a look.
Ann Margret's fashion in The Swinger can't be beat. Ultra matchy ensembles, extravagantly set hair, and abuse of color blocking. She seems to have a full outfit for every occasion in the brightest of colors. A kelly green sweater, leather coat, and leather hair scarf set for riding her scooter. A lemon yellow bathrobe, towel, and peep toe heels get up for lounging after a shower. A white feather coat lined in hot pink sequins makes an appearance in a burlesque number toward the end.
