I was overjoyed to be invited to the Houghton show at NYFW yesterday by the hat designer for the line, Patrick Kavanaugh. This was the debut of the Houghton line which designer Katherine Polk displayed along a sunny runway at Lincoln Center. I think we all walked away a little tanned after spending time in such a light filled space! The clothing was immaculate and came in a variety of white, cream, and ivory which sometimes popped against bright red shoes. The line was inspired by powerful stylish women ranging from Patti Smith to Bianca Jagger. The blankness in color made me think of oversize paper doll clothing made to emulate each inspiration. Of course, paper doll clothing could never move and flow in the way that these pieces did.  I loved the sheer silk collared shirts the best which fit effortlessly with a handful of the outfits.
The hats were amazing too! Patrick is a skilled milliner who I work with at my internship. The mauve hat I wore in my previous post was inspired in part  by the white large brimmed hat shown above (of course its going to take a bit more training before I can create such a beautifully shaped brim). Thanks to Patrick, the wide brimmed hat will be sticking around through next winter and who can complain about that?
I opted for a clean retro modern look for the show, and more importantly, one to highlight my glitter collar! This is the first look at the finished design. I decided to forgo a covered button in favor of a string tie in velvet. These will be on sale in just a couple weeks and I cannot wait! What do you think about it?
I spotted the suit guy featured in the Bill Cunningham documentary at the show and apparently Nigel Barker was there as well.
I also saw Lady Gaga outside but she was too far away for me to scream "Lady Gaga!" and take comfort in the fact that I wasn't trying to offend anyone (only the weird kids are gonna understand that one).
Fashion Week day 1 was a blast and I can't wait to sneak down there in between obligations this weekend looking for more adventures!

Hat is vintage Joseph Magnin. Collar is STELLA (coming soon). Shirt is American Apparel. Skirt is vintage Imagnin. Shoes are vintage Saks Fifth Avenue. Glasses are Miu Miu. Coat is I.N.C. Clutch is handmade.

All photos taken by me (are we loving my new camera yet??). If you wanna use some just ask! I'll probably let you.

    Amazing photos, Stella <3
LOVE the 5th photos (both the dress and the hat!), so beautiful!

It looks like the show had an interesting set up too. Did the model walk in and then line up on the stage?

Aw. Why aren't I in NYC right now?
I think I'd like to message you soon to catch up :)
    Awesome blog!!!

Beautiful photos! You look ready to walk the runway yourself! That collection is stunning; I especially like the trapeze, mini-dress with the ruffled collar. I love seeing all the looks in natural light - beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
