Alien Invasion: Modeling For Chromat NYFW


Yesterday I modeled some space-age garb at the Chromat FW13 presentation! I get mistaken for a mannequin a lot so playing a human mannequin is a fiting job for me. I'm pretty good at standing still even though it was pretty cold in the Industria Superstudio.

 
























My look was retro pin up from mars with no camp and all holograms. Even on my brows! My pals Gina Frey and Ashley Spedale were doing the makeup and I spent my backstage time hanging out with them, and my fellow models claw twin Jordan Fox and Angela Pham from Gallery Girls! I had so many friends in the audience, I was trying not to break face with people winking and sticking their tongue out at me! Hello? Modeling is serious business! Half the girls backstage barely cracked a smile the whole time. Spacewear is very very serious!

NYFW Day Five


I spent Fashion Week Day 5 hanging out with Audrey, event hopping around the West Side. We accidentally dressed to match each other. Tis the season for orange things, florals, and black cut out heels.We went to an event for Daily Candy on top of the Empire Hotel. It was amazing up there! I loved the giant sign! We were accosted by a very tan man who told us he does all the spray tanning for the Vicoria's Secret fashion show, which sounds like every non-gay man's dream job. He tried to convince me to get a spray tan. Can you imagine? I feel like all my power would diminish! 


We also stopped by Lincoln Center which was right across the street. A Japanese blog made me hold a sign for a photo. They told me it said "Fashion Week" but I secretly think it says "I'm a big dumb fashion lametard". Or something to that effect at least...
I was spotted a couple times later at the GenArt show that Audrey invited me to. Here I am looking dazed on Elle Canada. Here I am looking bright and bushy on Fashion Indie.

NYFW Day Four


I'm embarrassingly behind on my fashion week coverage thanks to my stupidly packed schedule that makes it impossible to do just about anything! That's going to change soon. In the mean time here I am running around Lincoln center in a prim ensemble while pretending it's not 90+ degrees out. Needless to say, my shirt was all kinds of stuck to my back...



I have to tell you about my skirt. My friend Jamie Von Stratton surprised me with it. It looks abstract but in reality its a collage of my Lanvin ad. Really hilarious. It got a lot of laughs after I explained it.

Even though I'm carrying my camera I couldn't get it together to take any of my own photos so I'm stealing everyone else's. NYFW Day Three





This was my "Casual Friday" look for day three of NYFW. A little '30s, a little modern, a little pajama-ish. I wore heels because a lady can never let herself get too comfy. At least if she still wishes to be called a lady. Me and Audrey spent half the day trying to meet up and I ended up at Leila Shams without her where I was escorted to the VIP section and seated next to a celeb that I cannot for the life of me seem to place. Why was I seated there? Was it because I was well dressed? Because I had a camera? Because I'm way super cool? I don't know but maybe I'll put bets on the first guess considering the audience was at least 60% tan things wedged into solid colored mini dresses with crusty mascara. Not that I have a problem with crusty mascara. The thing is, I think they do have a problem with it which is maybe the root of my qualm with them.

Er... anyway, the Leila Shams show was pretty and I jumped in a cab right after to go play press backstage at Rag & Bone. I included a picture of me above peeking into a mirror in the chaotic backstage area where Guido's team was busy working on hair. They style mine for Lanvin and it was nice to see them again. 

I stopped in a cafe on the way to the show and ate the quickest salad of my life. I ate it like a duck– I'm not sure I chewed anything! A group of italian tourists refused to offer me a seat at their counter but they did interrupt me to take photos of me between salad gulps. Maybe I should start charging for photos...

Finally met up with Audrey and Erica at Houghton which was presented outside. I wanted nearly everything that came down the runway– modern lace suits in black and white. Anything is better than those awful neon orange and yellow lace dresses every one has been wearing all summer but regardless the Houghton show was my favorite of the day and besides, they gave us free M&M's packaged in pill bottles so we can gorge on chocolate while looking like emaciated pill poppers. I don't know about you but I'm going to start eating all my meals from pill bottles just to piss people off.

Fashions Night Out


Thanks Erica and Audrey for the first and last images.

If Fashions Night Out to you looks like a bunch of girls in dresses standing around various parts of lower Manhattan making the same face in every picture, you're spot on. I've never done so much standing and smiling in my life. You wouldn't believe the shape my feet were in the next day, but at least my cheeks got a workout.
I spent the evening with friends and a Beautylish coworker hopping around Soho and the Lower East Side. we went by the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics store to visit my friend January and test out the new Lip Tar collection which was gifted to us by OCC founder David who is so incredibly sweet and generous.
We swung by Pat Fields and drank coconut water but wished for booze. The new store is filled with wig-spiration and lots of spiky things (more than before).
Hanna Beth was hosting the Nylon event at Bloomingdales which we were hopelessly late to but we caught her and Ivey anyway at the last minute.
I ended up in the mens bathroom at a dive bar with Derek and Audrey at the end of the night which really wasn't at all surprising to me. I loved all the folks I got to see and meet that night, but after OD'ing on LBD girls teetering around sporting highlights and unenthusiastic boy friends, the dive bar bathroom seemed like the most apt escape.

DEGEN SS13



My fashion week day 1 was an even split between work and glamour as I spent most of my afternoon home doing laundry while composing articles and scheduling the rest f my week somewhat (and maybe needlessly) frantically.
The glamour came earlier when I wandered my way through the beautiful neighborhoods near the Highline– over the cobblestone, under the 100 year old brick houses with red painted doors, and past the Louboutin stores, making my way to the Degen SS13 presentation.
Any program sheet that includes piece names such as "Pizza Bra", "Hairy Onesie", and "Glory Hole T" is sure to be a hit with me and it was fun to arrive and watch the models dance and writhe "Liquid Sky Style" in their junk food and floral theme garb. My favorite piece was the "Pizza Beret"– a collaborative effort between Lindsay Degen and Amy Cakes. Degen also collaborated with Converse adding double platform harnesses to many of the sneakers which I consider a vast improvement.
I got a phallic tattoo at the tattoo station and drank a sparkling peach juice with new friends Allison and Mattie of myfriendgooo. I'll be dreaming of crocheted pizza all winter long.
I chose a modern sporty playful look for this sporty playful show. My hair was inspired in part by amy Cakes and also by the extreme humidity (btw- I went back to blonde and purple. Like it??). I'm wearing an H&M vegan leather skirt, Steve Madden heels, vintage earrings and ring , and a handmade bag. My top is by my friend SENA NYC and it's absolutely to die for! What's more, it has a matching skirt that I'll wear with it later in the week. More to come!
